Purpose
The purpose of this award is to recognize and support the contributions of nursing research project or clinical inquiry project for a graduate nursing student or junior faculty member that will address research concerns related to mental health promotion and prevention, mental health policy development, community outreach, equity and social justice in nursing or health care for ethnic minority populations. For example, the project can focus on the identification of mental illness, interventions, health education, or disease prevention on individuals within a community setting. The proposed research or clinical inquiry project can be qualitative or quantitative, and proposals for pilot and/or developmental research, may be submitted.

Additional Information

This award is for $1,500. Priority for funding is based upon:

  1. The research project’s scientific merit, potential for knowledge development, and relevance to the advancement of the knowledge and practice of psychiatric- mental health nursing;

    OR

  2. The clinical inquiry project’s scientific merit, relevance to the advancement of knowledge and application of evidence in the practice of psychiatric-mental health nursing.

  3. Preference will be given to investigators in the early stages of their research or clinical inquiry careers.

Eligibility: Applicant must: 

  1. Be a full or part-time graduate nursing student (Masters or Doctorate) enrolled in an accredited psychiatric mental health graduate nursing program OR an advanced practice psychiatric nurse who is either a new investigator or a new leader in evidence based practice
  2. Be a member of ISPN
  3. Submit a completed grant application package
  4. Be ready to implement research or clinical inquiry project when funding is received

Requirements of grant recipient:

  • Institutional Review Board approval must be obtained before the release of funds.
  • Project must be completed within one (1) year of funding
  • Grant recipient agrees to provide a written summary (2-3 pages) of the completed research -- due 90 days following the end of the one-year funding period
  • Grant recipient agrees to submit an abstract to the ISPN Conference with willingness to present within the next two years post-funding
  • Grant recipient agrees to acknowledge the support of ISPN in all presentations or publications
  • Grant recipient agrees to submit photo for promotional purposes 

All application materials must be received by the deadline, to be considered. Only complete applications will be considered and incomplete materials will not be reviewed.
